Join the Lab
We build computational tools to understand how populations evolve across space and time. If you like code, data, and hard problems — let's talk.
What We Do
The PopGen Lab is a fully computational research group working at the intersection of population genetics, evolutionary biology, statistics, and computer science. Our projects focus on building quantitative tools to understand how populations are shaped by history, geography, and demography.
Research in the lab is inherently interdisciplinary. Students come from backgrounds in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, statistics, genetics, and evolutionary biology, and bring different ways of thinking about data, models, and biological questions.
- Developing statistical and computational methods
- Working with large-scale genomic and genealogical datasets
- Designing and running simulations of evolutionary and demographic processes
- Building visualizations and exploratory analyses to understand complex structure
Most projects involve substantial coding and quantitative reasoning. While prior experience with programming is important, students arrive with different strengths, and projects are shaped to build on both biological insight and technical skill.
